BIO

Born in 1986, Aeyoung majored in Ceramic and Glass Craft at Hongik University and earned her Master’s degree in Ceramics from the Graduate School of Dongguk University. Her artistic practice explores the intricate relationship between human desire, social tension, and inner reflection. Through the language of ceramics, she translates these narratives into contemporary landscapes—deconstructing and reassembling traditional ceramic forms to reveal both fragility and resilience.

Aeyoung’s works often take shape through the disassembly of porcelain structures, where the exposed cross-sections become spaces of contemplation. Her celebrated series Pivot exemplifies this approach: porcelain vessels divided into three or four parts around a central axis—each segment capable of being reconfigured into new compositions. This modularity reflects the artist’s belief in constant transformation and multiplicity, suggesting that change itself is the true center, or “pivot,” of life.

At the age of 26, Aeyoung received the Gold Award at the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, marking her emergence as a distinctive voice in contemporary ceramics. Since then, she has been recognized with the Grand Prize at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale, and has participated in multiple international residencies, including at the Shiga Prefecture Ceramic Art Forest in Japan. Her works have been showcased at major exhibitions such as the Creative Studio Exhibition at the COEX Craft Trend Fair, and are included in notable collections such as the Seoul Craft Museum, Yangcheon Ceramic Museum, Shiga Prefecture Ceramic Culture Park (Japan), City Joy Hotel (China), Lotte Hotel World, and Seoul Grand Joy Hotel.

Through her evolving practice, Aeyoung continues to pursue the essence of form and material, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary sensibility—transforming clay into a medium for psychological and cultural dialogue.
